Okay, so I apologize, I haven't updated in a little while now. I have been very busy with training the last couple of weeks. I also just got a new full time job. I took yesterday and today off. Now that I have a 45 hour work week, I have to put together a new training routine that I can follow without burning myself out. I will certainly still be putting in as much time as I can. My goal is still the same and I am still hellbent on getting there. I do need a job though, I am in a very difficult financial situation and I am dealing with it. I'm excited for my job, I am the training assistant manager at the la fitness in my home town. I am excited and I'm excited to continue training. I am still working my brazilian jiu jitsu and my muay thai. I do want to venture into wrestling and get a couple of classes in, as this is super important in mma. I have been doing a lot of lifting and running and I am pleased to say that I am moving along quite well. The gym looks incredible, our cage is completely finished, things are really awesome over there. I've been working a lot in muay thai as well with trainer and coach, Anthony Demaio. I am also excited to announce to all of you that I will be competing December 10th 2011 at the Grapplers Quest championships in Asbury Park, New Jersey. I am super excited and I can't wait to get in there and compete! Anyway, it's great to finally get a good update going again for you guys, I apologize for the delay! Of course as always I'd like to thank each and every one of you who takes the time to check out my blog, twitter, or facebook, it really means a lot and I am glad to have your support! Thanks so much!

So I'm hanging out on my front steps with my laptop and my dog. The weather is awesome right now. Today was a pretty solid day of training. Yes, I say solid a lot, all the time, I know, haha. I started with a run, back to the roadwork, no treadmill today. I ran just under a mile and a half or so, I picked up the pace today though a little more than usual. I got back home and went right to the basement to work some legs. Got some sumo squats going, body weight squats, followed by short pumps, and some static lunges. Got in some adduction exercises to help me close up my triangles. I also did some stability ball leg curls. I worked on my kicks just for a bit, and did some work on my muay thai blocks. I'm putting in some work on blocking my opponents kicks. It was a really good workout today though, I got a good sweat going. Tomorrow is gonna be a great training day as well, I'm training muay thai with my coach, Anthony Demaio. I can't wait! Everyday of training completed is one step closer to the ultimate goal. I'm pumped more and more everyday! So I thank you all once again for taking your time to read my blog, and if you have a facebook please click the link below and 'like' my page. Okay, so I'm hanging out watching UFC, I'm pretty excited to see Ben Henderson fight, he's the man. Hope you guys have some good stuff going on for the fight tonight. Anyway, I got some good work in today. It was raining all day long so I had to hit the treadmill today. I hate the treadmill, I'd rather go somewhere when I run, either way I still knocked out a thirty minute run there. I followed up right after with some chest, tris, and shoulders. I did a circuit today just rotating between a shoulder press, overhead tricep extensions, and pushups. It was a pretty sweet workout. I feel more and more solid everyday. Oh, and of course I got in my hundred crunches, I usually try to hit those everyday. Posted up my playlist earlier, you guys can get a peek  into what's on my headphones while I am working out. So, anyway, I'm excited for UFC tonight. Again, as usual I thank all of you guys for reading my posts and supporting my journey. As I always say, I need all the support I can get and it really means the world to me that you guys are following my journey and coming along for the ride. #teamnikki!
I think I am going to post my playlist from today's workout, in no specific order:

Secret and Whisper - Warrior

Secret and Whisper - Whale Bones

Oceana - The Family Disease

My Ticket Home - The Best Dancer Carries a Six Shooter

Like Moths to Flames - Real Talk

Letlive. - We, the Pros of Con

The Color Morale - Hopes Anchor

Closure in Moscow - Sweet#hart

Blur - Song 2

Blessthefall - Hey Baby, Here's That Song You Wanted

Warrior is my favorite workout song, I listened to it a whole bunch of times, then of course all the other tunes.

That was today's playlist.

Again, thank you for reading and supporting!

So today I started and finished everything pretty early, started with a 2.1 mile run, then followed up with a pretty solid leg workout. I've been feeling really fantastic lately and I'm always thinking about my ultimate goal, becoming a successful mixed martial artist. I think about it all the time and it excites me more and more everyday. This is only the beginning and I'm having the time of my life. Of course I do have my short term goals set, I'm really looking to build up my stamina, so the running is very important for me. I also want to build up a little more muscle, which, of course, is where the strength training comes in. I'm totally pumped for this journey and I'm glad you guys are all taking it with me. I appreciate all the support from you guys, keep it up, I'm so motivated to hit this goal, and you guys are really awesome to join me and follow my progress through all of this. Keep supporting #teamnikki!!

Oh and by the way, I have made an official facebook page where you guys can also find me. Just type in nikkimmajourney in the search bar. Check it out!

I'm gonna update this bad boy now since I'm on the computer and it's easier to type on here than on my phone. So today, again, was a very successful day. I started with a BJJ class with coach Gregg Depasquale. We worked on some half guard passing stuff. I had a great time, as usual. After that I went over to good old LA Fitness and got some back and bis going. It was a pretty solid workout. Finally I got in a quick run. I felt great, my pace is a little slow, but right now I'm not looking for speed, I am looking to get things done. I don't like to start walking, I like to finish what I start. I guess that's a good attitude to have. Anyway besides all that I'm really happy to say that I finally got some video up and the youtube account is officially up and running. My first video is one of me training Muay Thai with my coach, Anthony Demaio, special thanks to Marty for taking the video and Anthony for editing it. You can check it out by typing nikkimmajourney in the youtube search bar. I would post a link here, but for some reason youtube is not working correctly on my computer right now. Anyway I'd like to say thank you to all my supporters once again. You guys are great and I hope you keep coming back to follow this incredible journey. I really appreciate it because I need all the support I can get, you guys are great, thank you!

Okay, so I'm hanging out on my couch watching UFC on versus and it's time for an update. Today was great, started out with a nice little run, about a mile again. From there I went to LIMMA for some no gi jiu jitsu. We did a lot of rolling there it was awesome, I loved it. We also worked some pretty cool guard passing moves, which was pretty sweet since I really wanted to work on my guard passing. After that I did some light mma sparring...I definitely have a lot to work on, but I still had an awesome time training and I can feel myself constantly improving little by little each day. My Brazilian Jiu Jitsu coach, Gregg Depasquale told me that he got a chance to watch me roll the other night and said my BJJ was coming along nicely, which was really great to hear! So I'm really happy with the work I put in today, as well as a couple of sets of chest, shoulders, and tris before BJJ. It was a good day, just like every other training day. And yes, I took home some pretty crazy bruises the last couple of days, I posted some pictures of those battlescars on my twitter, there's also some video up as well...hopefully the link works I'm not sure if it doesn't I will figure it out. So anyway, check out some of the new pics and such on twitter @NikkiMMAJOURNEY. Thanks to everyone who is reading this and supporting me on this journey, you guys are great!

Okay, so today I put in a lot of good work. I started my training with a quick little run, just about a mile. After, from 2-4 I trained muay thai, with my fantastic trainer and coach, Anthony Demaio. Finally, from 6-8 I trained in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Muay thai training went very well, worked some light sparring and concentrated a lot on blocks. I am really happy with my progress thus far, I'm starting to see a lot of things click and that pumps me up big time. BJJ training consisted of some butterfly guard work. We also drilled a new takedown, well, new to myself at least, and we also learned some pretty cool chokes that use the gi. Lots of pictures were taken during the muay thai training. Those will be up on twitter within the next few days. My twitter username is nikkimmajourney and you'll find a lot of other pictures up on my feed right now. I would like to give a shout out to a friend of Anthony's and now a new friend of mine, his name is Marty and he is responsible for a lot of the photo and video work as well as the logo. Anthony is also responsible for the video and photography. He handles a camera well, so big, big shout out to these guys. Thank you everybody for reading. keep supporting #teamnikki, you guys are great, I'll be getting to bed soon, after a very productive and intense day I am tired and in need of some sleep. Goodnight everyone, and thanks again!

Tuesday, August 9, 2011

What a great day, got a lot of work in. Started with a 2.85 mile run in 30 minutes time. A little later on I got a quick little leg workout in, and after that got some no gi jiu jitsu going at the gym. We went over the gift wrap to a back take and then mixed in an armbar variation. Did alright with the rolling at the end, got out of an armbar, which I was happy with since it's something I have been trying to get down. Also, last week I learned and drilled the berimbolo technique. I was super stoked for that since rolling is something I've been practicing for some time. Anyway, it's almost time to call it a night, thank you for your support! =)

And so it begins...

Okay, so now I got a blog going for my mma journey. Gives me more than the 140 character limit on twitter, haha. So basically what I am doing is documenting everything I can as I continue along on my quest to be a successful mixed martial artist. I started training about three months ago in muay thai with my fantastic coach, Mr Anthony Demaio. I also train in Brazilian jiu jitsu with the help of my coach David Hubbard at Long Island Mixed Martial Arts, located in Lindenhurst, NY. it is an absolute pleasure to be able to work with such fine and talented individuals. I began training muay thai about 3 months ago, and BJJ around 2 months ago. This is the beginning of an incredible journey and I am REALLY excited, so here it goes!!! Thank you everyone for your support thus far I hope you stick around for the ride!!! #teamnikki!!
